Town Police Log: Burglary, Grand Larceny and Criminal Mischief
There were numerous break-ins this week, into sheds, a car, homes and businesses.
Southampton Town Police arrest and incident reports Nov. 29 through Dec. 5:
Burglary
Kristen M. Tyler, 22, of Olive Street in East Hampton was arrested on Dec. 2 at Southampton Town Police headquarters in Hampton Bays and charged with burglary in the second degree, a felony, in connection with an Apr. 5, 2007 incident on Ericas Lane in Sagaponack. Police said Tyler cut her hand when she broke into the Sagaponack home to steal a computer and left blood behind, which was entered into a criminal database. When she was convicted of an unrelated crime recently and was compelled to give a sample of her DNA, her DNA was flagged in the database, police said.

The business manager of on North Sea Road in North Sea reported on Dec. 2 that between 6 p.m. on Dec. 1 and 4:40 a.m. on Dec. 2 someone entered the building from a rear window and opened multiple desk drawers. The manager said he was alerted to the incident by a burglar alarm.
The manager of Liberty Iron Works on County Road 39A in Southampton reported that at approximately 9:47 p.m. on Nov. 30 someone cut the chain on an entrance gate and stole six reels of welding cable from three different vehicles parked on the property. Surveillance cameras show two suspects wearing hooded sweatshirts entering the parking lot, according to police.

A Birch Street, Sag Harbor resident reported that someone entered his shed and stole numerous tools and batteries valued at $3,600. The burglary happened between Nov. 14 and Nov. 28, he told police, and in a prior incident he had an ATV stolen. There was no indication whether the two incidents were related.
Petit Larceny and Criminal Mischief
The building manager of Essay Oil on Majors Path in Southampton reported that someone broke into a locked shed there between Nov. 30 and Dec. 2 and removed two cases of sprinkler heads worth $600 and tools valued at $200.
Driving While Intoxicated
Cecilia F. Gates, 41, of North Main Street in Southampton was arrested on Sunday at 2:15 a.m. and charged with driving while intoxicated and driving while intoxicated with a BAC over .08 percent. Southampton Town Police said she blew 0.12 percent on a breathalyzer. According to police, Gates was stopped for speeding on Montauk Highway in Water Mill near the Newlight Lane intersection. She smelled strongly of alcohol, slurred her speech and her eyes were glassy, police said. Gates was transported to police headquarters in Hampton Bays, processed and held for arraignment.
Grand Larceny and Criminal Possession of a Forged Instrument
Candice L. Nelson, 39, of Jordan Lane in Southampton was arrested Saturday at 9 a.m. at Southampton Town Police headquarters in Hampton Bays and charged with grand larceny in the fourth degree and criminal possession of a forged instrument in the second degree, both felonies. Southampton Town Police said she committed the crimes sometime between Oct. 19 and Oct. 27 at Astoria Federal Savings Bank in Southampton Village.
Criminal Mischief
The owner of a home on the Bridgehampton-Sag Harbor Turnpike in Bridgehampton reported on Dec. 2 that between Nov. 30 and that day someone broke all of the windows on the house, including sliding glass doors and skylights. The damage was estimated at $25,000.
A resident of Long Beach Lane in Sag Harbor reported this week that his mailbox was damaged, and police said a search of the area turned up damaged mailboxes on Hillover Lane and Trout Pond Road. Police noted there were also reports of damaged mailboxes in Bridgehampton.
Grand Larceny
A resident of Big Fresh Pond Road in Southampton reported that between 1:30 a.m. and 9:15 a.m. on Dec. 5 someone stole $400 in cash, two laptops, a leather bag, a custom guitar strap and a check book valued at $2,175 from his Mazda convertible. He told police it could have happened while the car was parked in front of his house or while in front of the North Sea General Store on North Sea Road.
Petit Larceny
An employee of Walpole Woodworkers at in Water Mill reported on Dec. 2 that two white vinyl planters valued at $996 were stolen from an unlocked shed between Nov. 12 and Nov. 19.
Charges are merely accusations. Defendants are innocent until proven guilty in a court of law. A name will only be removed if the accused has been aquitted and can provide a certificate of disposition. Contact the editor to make such a request.
