Thief Runs Off With Donation Jar for Crash Victim

Sag Harbor Village police are seeking man who stole donations intended for Jhenny Arias, The East Hampton Star reports.

An unidentified man ran into the 7-Eleven in Sag Harbor last Saturday and grabbed a donation jar from the counter before driving away, according to The East Hampton Star. The jar was there to help an employee of the store who was hospitalized in critical condition after being hit by a Jeep Jan. 15.

Jhenny Arias, 36, of Sag Harbor, was walking across Brick Kiln Road in Sag Harbor, near the Getty station, when she was struck, according to police. No charges were leveled against the driver for the accident. Arias was airlifted to Stony Brook University Hospital.

According to The Star, the owner of the 7-Eleven, Saqib Hameed, took up the collection for his “best employee,” whom he visits daily.

A new jar has been put on the counter to begin collecting donations again for Arias’ expenses, The Star reports, while Sag Harbor Village police investigate the theft of the original.
