Incident Reports: Teen Robbed in Hampton Bays; Orchard Burglarized

Crimes and suspicious incident recently reported to the Southampton Town Police Department:

Robbery

• A Hampton Bays High School student reported a robbery Oct. 17 on Squiretown Road in Hampton Bays. According to the police report, the teen was leaving school on his bicycle when a man came out of a wooded area and started to punch him, knocked him off his bike and stole his bookbag and cellphone. Police are looking for the assailant.   

Burglary

• In Water Mill on Oct. 13, a burglary was reported at an orchard on Seven Ponds Towd Road. Taken was $25 in coins from a cash register. 

• A Westhampton man told police Oct. 16 that someone entered his home on Tanners Neck Lake and stole two laptop computers. Police are looking into the burglary.

• A concrete brick was reportedly thrown through the window of a Westhampton home on Seabreeze Avenue on Oct. 14. Two computers were removed from the home. Police are searching for the burglar.

• Cash, an outdoor table and an Epson printer were taken from a home on Cobb Road in Water Mill on Oct. 11. No signs of forced entry were noted.   

Grand Larceny

• A Bridgehampton woman complained to police Oct. 20 that her purse was stolen from her vehicle that was parked at an Ocean Road beach in Bridgehampton. The woman said she was walking her dog when she left the vehicle. Missing is $200 in cash and three credit cards.  

• In Sagaponack on Oct. 14, a woman reported that someone removed a large quantity of fuel oil from the storage tank on her property on Merchants Path.  

• On Oct. 12, the theft of several jewelry items were reported at a home in Southampton. Police reported that a platinum ring, a gold and emerald ring and a sapphire bracelet were taken from a home on Cold Spring Court.

Harassment

• In Flanders Oct. 21, a man who visited the USA gas station on Flanders Road was accused of harassing an employee by first urinating on the side of the building and then punching the employee in the face. He then fled the scene in a maroon Dodge Durango. No arrests related to the incident have been reported.

• A verbal altercation that occurred Oct. 18 on Flanders Road in Riverside prompted a man to complain to police that he was kicked and punched by another man. No arrests have been reported.

• A Westhampton woman told police that an unknown person called her business in Hampton Bays asking to talk to another woman. When told the woman does not work there, the caller became aggressive and threatened to kill her. If caught, the caller faces a charge of aggravated harassment.

Criminal Mischief

• Police are searching for three people who were reportedly riding dirt bikes on Majors Path in Southampton that damaged the grass in that area. The incident was reported Oct. 20 to authorities.

Identity Theft

• A case of identity theft was reported in Hampton Bays Oct. 18 in which an iPhone was shipped from Verizon to the wrong recipient. Detectives are following up on the matter.

• In Sag Harbor on Oct. 15, a man reported that another person used his identity to purchase goods such as a flat-panel TV and a men’s watch at a Walmart in Arkansas. 

Petty Larceny

• On Oct. 19, a Hampton Bays woman told police that her vehicle’s registration and keys were taken from her car that had been parked on a driveway on Fanning Avenue. Police reported that the complainant was intoxicated at the time of the report.

• Outdoor dining chairs were reported stolen from a Hampton Bays property on Washington Heights Avenue Oct. 18. The missing chairs are worth approximately $300, say police.  

• At the Hampton Bays Recycling Center on Oct. 14, a man who was dumping brush and trash reportedly became irate at a worker there when he was told he had to pay for the dumping. The man left without paying for the service.

• Two car stereos were reported stolen from a car that was parked at a residence on Millstone Lane on Oct. 15. The complainant told police that the stereos are worth $200.
