Suspect in Paintball Shooting Spree Arrested

Southampton Town police say a Patchogue man has been shooting at storefronts on County Road 39.

For weeks, someone had been shooting paintballs from a moving vehicle at businesses along County Road 39, and police say that on April 22 they caught up with him.

Shinnecock Hardware, Kazdin Pools & Spas, and Suburban Auto were among the businesses that were targeted for no apparent reason, according to Southampton Town police.

“Although no tangible damage or injuries were reported to police, some store owners spent hours cleaning the paint off the front of their stores,” police said.

Detectives were alerted April 22 at 5:55 p.m. that a vehicle may have been involved in the shootings, and police stopped the driver on Sunrise Highway in Hampton Bays, according to authorities. The driver, Terrance M. Wahl, 36, of Patchogue, was found with a loaded paintball gun in his car, police said. He was placed under arrest and charged with two counts of third-degree criminal tampering, a misdemeanor.
