Suffolk Police Offer Teens Free 'Crash Course in Crash Avoidance'
From July 21 through July 25, Suffolk PD's Emergency Vehicle Operations Course instructors will offer a safety course to young drivers.
From July 21 through July 25, Suffolk County Police will offer teens a free single day “Crash Course in Crash Avoidance.”
The course will be offered to teens between the ages of 16 and 18 from Monday the 21st through Friday the 25th from 9 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. or from 1 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. at The Suffolk County Police EVOC Academy, located at 110 Old Country Road in Westhampton.
Taught by Suffolk PD Emergency Vehicle Operations Course (EVOC) instructors, the two and a half hour course aims to teach new drivers to avoid dangerous driving situations and will consist of a short classroom lecture followed by a live demonstration on the EVOC track. Topics covered will include vehicle dynamics, braking, cornering, acceleration and crash avoidance.

“Avoidance and awareness are the keys to vehicular safety,” said Suffolk Legislator Lou D’Amaro (D-Huntington Station). “I urge all new teen drivers to register and attend this worthwhile free course.”
