Southampton Police: Trio Beat Man, Stole $1,500

One suspect arrested and held on immigration warrant.

A Texas man who police say was part of a trio that beat and robbed a victim in Southampton was arrested Tuesday.

said that at around 8:30 p.m. on Saturday the victim, a 34-year-old Southampton man, stepped outside of Blue Collar Bar on County Road 39 to smoke a cigarette. That's when he was approached by three Hispanic men who chased him to the rear of the building next door, knocked him to the ground and beat him, according to police. One of the attackers stole $1,500 in cash from his pocket, cops added.

Though the victim sustained "substantial" bruising and lacerations, he refused medical attention, police said.

Detectives located one of the suspects on Tuesday, Efrain Alvarez, 34, of San Antonio, and arrested him at police headquarters in Hampton Bays at 8:46 p.m.  Police charged him with second-degree robbery, a felony.

Police said Alvarez, who was temporarily living in Southampton for a construction job, also had an immigrant warrant out from the Department of Homeland Security. He was held overnight for morning arraignment at , where he was remanded to the Suffolk County Correctional Facility in Riverside.

The Dept of Homeland Security has a warrant out for a guy who is in temporary living for a construction job in Southampton? This is crazy. Another example of our way of life and our tax dollars being wasted by the "under the table" economy.

I stand with you Wonder girl.Which one of us is going to be next? Will this robbery start a chain of copycat crimes?Who stands up for the law abiding, tax paying citizen? The Police have their hands tied by the Feds. Our way of life has been compromised and it seems to get worse every day.Where are the other two criminals? They have probably used the money they stole to leave the State and buy phony ID.

What candidate will step up and remove illegals that are draining our finances in this United States and killing innocent citizens!

I agree 100 percent with you all! Something needs to be done about these illegals that are out of control and who think they are un touchable, and it needs to be done NOW! They need to be deported and we need a government that is not afraid to stand up for our legal rights as citizens.

But, but, but . . . . . . he's a "dreamer" - so he's going to be set free.
