Southampton Firefighters Respond to Gas Leak on Elm Street

Road closed for a time Friday morning as leak was stopped.

A gas leak shut down Elm Street in Southampton Village on Friday morning, after a contractor digging in the area struck a gas line, according to Southampton Fire Department Second Assistant Chief Chris Brenner.

The fire department was called in at 9:27 a.m. and the fire police company diverted traffic for a half hour, Brenner said.

He said National Grid responded and was able to stop the leak.
