Southampton Firefighters Awarded For Rescuing Elderly Victim

Southampton Fire Department members Michael Kampf, Stephen Rogoski, Matthew Shimkus and Rodney Pierson have been awarded medals from the Suffolk County Fire Academy for their heroic actions.
The awards were presented during the 2013 Suffolk County Vocational Education and Extension Board Medal Day ceremony at Southampton High School on Saturday.
"It was a great day for the Southampton fire department," Southampton Fire Department Chief Chris Brenner.

According Brenner, the men were recognized specifically for their heroic actions rescuing an elderly victim from an October 2012 working house fire on Bellows Lane in Southampton Village.
While she was rescued, the woman, Ona R. Masters, 95, later died as a result of carbon monoxide poisoning.
