More than 100 firefighters are on scene at a mulch and brush fire off Speonk-Riverhead Road, and is among the departments called in to help.
Capt. Chris Brenner said Southampton was called to respond to Eastport at 1:45 p.m., and provided a tanker truck and crew.
The Sunday fire, which started before 1 p.m., comes just five days after Suffolk fire departments extinguished brush fires that raged in Brookhaven and Riverhead towns for two days.
"It sure has been a busy brush fire season," said Brenner, the Southampton Fire Department spokesman. "Our guys are willing and able to respond at any time. Our guys train for incidents like this."
Bill Dalton, of the , said mulch burns for hours. "We have a long night ahead of us."
Firefighters from other areas are continuting to respond to the area, including , Riverhead, Quogue, and East Moriches.
