Southampton firefighters were dispatched to a mulch fire in Eastport on Friday around 10 p.m. with a ladder truck, according to Capt. Chris Brenner.
As of 9 a.m. Saturday, Southampton firefighters were still there assisting the Eastport Fire Department and sent a tanker truck as well, Brenner said.
"Our members are realy stepping up to the plate and doing a terrific job," he said. "All hours of the day and night they are out."
Fire Departments reported that smoke could be seen in the north as far as Calverton and past Sound Avenue in Riverhead.
Chief Tim Shea said the fire was much bigger than . This time, he said a large pile of debris, mostly large timbers, were burning.
According to a firefighter on the ground, Moriches, Westhampton Beach, Quogue, East Quogue, Hampton Bays, Jamesport, Riverhead, Manorville, and Flanders Fire Departments all responded, as well as Hampton Bays ambulance.
