Sag Harbor Police Log: Man Drives Into Yard, Charged With DWI
DWI arrest is one of four in Sag Harbor Village among the week's reported crimes.
Driving While Intoxicated
• Jose G. Lorenzo, 27, of East Hampton, was arrested June 30 at 2:20 a.m. and charged with DWI, a misdemeanor. According to the arrest report, police responded to an accident on Hampton Street and found a gray 2000 Toyota in a front yard of a home with the key in the ignition. Lorenzo was behind the wheel, uninjured, and was taken out through the sunroof, police said. The report stated that Lorenzo said to a witness, in Spanish, that he had two beers earlier and fell asleep while driving.
• Michael J. Schmitz, 46, of East Hampton, was arrested June 25 at 1:44 a.m. at Route 114 and Hillside Drive and charged with DWI, a misdemeanor; unlawful possession of marijuana, a violation; and failure to keep right and speeding, both traffic infractions. He was additionally cited for refusing to submit to a breath test. Police said Schmitz was speeding in a white 1974 Ford Bronco, going 42 in a 30-mile-per-hour zone, and crosses over the double yellow lines. According to the arrest report, Schmitz performed poorly on sobriety tests and his breath smelled strongly of alcohol. When he was searched, police found a clear bag of marijuana, the report stated.

• Paul J. Dascenzo, 39, of East Hampton, was arrested June 26 at 5:37 p.m. and charged with DWI, a misdemeanor, and running a stop sign and driving an unregistered vehicle, both misdemeanors. He was additionally cited for refusing a breath test, according to the arrest report. The report stated that Dascenzo ran a stop sign on Jermain Avenue and when he was pulled over police found he had alcohol on his breath. Dascenzo told the arresting officer that he had three beers that day, police said.
• Anthony Roberts, 41, of Sag Harbor, was arrested June 30 at 2:35 a.m. and charged with DWI, a misdemeanor. Police said Roberts was driving a gray 2011 Volkswagen south on Hampton Street when he failed to stay in his lane and made a left onto Beach Avenue. He was pulled over by police on Beach Avenue and found to be drunk behind the wheel, according to the arrest report.

Locking Pet in Car
• A 63-year-old Southampton woman was cited July 1 for confining a companion animal in a vehicle on Meadow Street at 3 p.m. Police did not provide details.
