Sag Harbor Police Log: Man Clocks Woman in Face at Café

Police say a verbal argument escalated until suspect punched victim.

Assault

• Francisco Lopez, 47, of Sag Harbor, was arrested Nov. 27 and charged with assault in the third degree, a misdemeanor. According to the arrest report, a woman reported that while at Golden Pear Cafe that morning, Lopez walked in and they had an argument about a prior incident. The argument escalated to yelling, and then Lopez punched the victim in her face, knocking her to the ground, the arrest report states. A witness who helped the victim to her feet called police, according to the report, and Lopez was arrested, processed and released on $100 bail with a Dec. 11 appearance date at Sag Harbor Village Justice Court.

Driving While Intoxicated

• Damian Vargas, 31, was arrested Dec. 2 at 3:28 a.m. and charged with driving while intoxicated, a misdemeanor, and multiple vehicle and traffic infractions. According to the arrest report, Vargas is living in Sag Harbor, but he is a non-resident originally from Guatamala. Police said Vargas drove the entire distance of Long Island Avenue in the wrong lane, then made a left on the wrong side of the traffic island on the intersection of Long Island Avenue and Glover Street. Upon being pulled over, police discovered Vargas has a strong smell of alcohol on his breath, his speech was slurred and he was unsteady on his feet, according to the arrest report.
