Sag Harbor Police Log: Drunk Driver Tried to Flee Accident With Flat Tire

Also among recent arrests, a Manhattan man charged with DWI on North Haven.

Arrests by Sag Harbor Village police the week of Aug. 6 to 12:

Driving While Intoxicated

• Nicholas Barberio, 58, of Manhattan, was arrested Aug. 10 at 6:05 p.m. after he fled an accident with a flat tire and was found to drunk behind the wheel, according to police. The arrest report stated that police received a call reporting a tan 1991 BMW driving away after attempting to make a righthand turn from Main Street onto Route 114 and instead driving up onto the curb and hitting a lamppost. When a police officer found the BMW, it was pulling over on Division Street due to the flat tire, the report stated. Barberio had alcohol on his breath, watery and bloodshot eyes, his speech was slurred and he was unsteady on his feet, police said. He was charged with DWI, a misdemeanor, and refusing a breath test, a violation, as well as leaving the scene of an accident and making an unsafe lane change, both traffic infractions. He was held for morning arraignment in Sag Harbor Village Justice Court.

• Michael F. Trezza, 48, of Manhattan, was arrested Aug. 10 at 1:44 a.m. and charged with DWI, a misdemeanor. Police said Trezza was driving a grey 2013 Chevrolet north on Main Street when he ran a stop sign at the Bay Street intersection then failed to maintain his lane on the bridge to North Haven. He was stopped by police on Route 114 on North Haven and found to be drunk behind the wheel, according to the arrest report.
