Sag Harbor Cops: Robbers Tied Up Employee at Gunpoint

Employee was able to break free after robbers left the store.

While the search continues for two people who held-up a Sag Harbor Village store on Tuesday, police revealed that the robbers pulled out a handgun and tied the employee up before they ransacked the vintage consignment shop.

On Tuesday at about 6 p.m., a man and a woman went into the Corner Closet at 108 Main Street and displayed a handgun and forced the employee to the back of the store, Sag Harbor Village police said in a statement. "The employee was put into the storage area at which time the male suspect put both hands and legs of the employee in restraints," according to the statement. They did not indicate what was used to tie up the employee.

The robbers than went back to the front of the store where they stole several items — clothing and handbags, according to Chief Thomas Fabiano.

Police did not say how much the items were worth, but the store is known to carry expensive vintage Chanel, Hermès, Missoni, Pucci and other resale couture, in addition to handbags and jewelry.

The robbers — who were described as being Hispanic and in their mid to late 20s — left through the front door, leaving the employee tied up. "The employee was able to get free from restraints and exited the store, at which time the employee asked someone to call 911," police said.

Sag Harbor Village, Southampton Town, East Hampton Town and East Hampton Village police responded. Police pulled over a vehicle on the Bridgehampton-Sag Harbor Turnpike in Bridgehampton soon after the robbery was reported. Two people were reportedly taken into custody, but were determined not to be involved in the robbery.

The Suffolk County Police Crime Scene Unit are assisting in the investigation.
