Police Warn Southampton Residents of Phone Scam

The scam is specifically targeting Southampton Town phone numbers, police said.

Southampton Town residents have been warned to watch out for a phone scam targeting their community.

According to Southampton Town police, several reports have been received involving a phone scam specifically targeting Southampton Town phone exchanges.

The caller has a foreign accent and identifies himself as John Anderson, police said; the subject then informs the victim that he has several warrants with the Internal Revenue Service for fraud.

According to police, "Anderson" then requests a wire transaction of $10,000.

The phone number utilized by the scammers is 202-239-6960, police said.

"Do not give personal information or send money to anyone calling you," police said.
