Police: Ticket Book Snatched From Traffic Control Officer
Cops say a man found out that tossing a traffic control officer's ticket book does not get him out of a ticket — it gets him arrested.
Before a traffic control officer could ticket vehicles in Water Mill on Wednesday, a man approached her from behind yelling, "You're not going to be writing any tickets today!” and snatched the ticket book out of her hands, according to police.
Southampton Town police said the traffic control officer had come upon several illegally parked vehicles on Dune Road around 12:15 p.m. She was walking toward the vehicles when Michael Kelley, who was working at a nearby construction site, began cursing at her, according a police statement. After Kelley grabbed the ticket book, he threw it, police said.
Kelley, 59, of Wainscott, was arrested and charged with obstructing governmental administration in the second degree, a misdemeanor. He was processed at police headquarters in Hampton Bays and released on $250 stationhouse bail with a future court date for arraignment.
