Police: Riverhead Man Stole Cash Register Drawer from Restaurant

Man hid after burglarizing a Shinnecock Hills restaurant, Southampton Town police say.

A police officer responded to a burglar alarm at 2 a.m. Sunday at in Shinnecock Hills and found a 27-year-old Riverhead man hiding near a dumpster with a cash register drawer, according to the .

Police said Alberto Hernandez-Hernandez had taken the drawer from the restaurant, where there were signs of forced entry. He was charged with burglary in the third degree, a felony, and criminal mischief in the fourth degree, a misdemeanor.

Hernandez-Hernandez was arraigned at and remanded to the Suffolk County Jail on $8,000 bail, police said.
