Police: North Sea Teen Arrested for Spray-Painting Street Signs in East Moriches

Seventeen-year-old girl charged with seven counts of making graffiti.

Suffolk County Police arrested a North Sea teenager Wednesday, charging her with spray-painting several street signs in East Moriches in January.

Between Jan. 1 and Jan. 18, numerous stop signs and speed signs were tagged with the words “Barbie” and “yogi,” according to police, who said the 17-year-old girl was behind the tag "Barbie." She was charged with seven counts of making graffiti, a misdemeanor.

Patch is withholding the arrestee's name because she is a minor.

The girl was released on bail and is scheduled to be arraigned in First District Court in Central Islip on June 1. Police said the investigation is continuing.

Suffolk police are asking anyone with information about graffiti in the East Moriches area to contact the Seventh Precinct Crime Section at 631-852-8726. Tipsters can also make an anonymous call to Crime Stoppers at 1-800-220-TIPS, police said.
