A Center Moriches man was arrested Sunday morning after assaulting his fiancee and then attempting to flee police in Eastport, State Police said.
According to police, troopers attempted to pull over a 2013 Hyundai Elantra for speeding on Sunrise Highway, east of County Road 111, at 6:10 a.m.
The driver, later identified as Michael Kay, 33, did not stop and attempted to evade the trooper, police said.
Kay drove to his residence in Center Moriches, where he exited the vehicle and ran inside, police said.
The trooper observed a female passenger in Kay's vehicle with blood on her face and the woman told the trooper she was Kay's fiancee and that he had punched her in the face earlier, police said.
After the trooper approached the residence and a female answered the door, Kay surrendered, police said.
Kay is charged with third degree unlawfully fleeing a police officer, third degree assault and third degree aggravated unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle. All of those charges are misdemeanors.
Kay was held for arraignment in Southampton Town Justice Court.
