Police: Kmart Employee Scammed Company Out Of Merchandise

Also, police respond to a fight between two women in North Sea.

The following incidents were reported by the Town of Southampton Police Department for the week of Dec. 16.

Bridgehampton

  • Police were called to the Kmart in Bridgehampton on Dec. 9 after the store’s loss prevention manager reported an employee for stealing merchandise. According to the manager, the employee had been improperly scanning and voiding assorted clothes, diapers, boots and toys over a stretch of time between Oct. 6 and Nov. 3. The merchandise stolen totaled $263.07. Police said paperwork has been drawn up for the employee’s arrest, but the arrest has not yet been made.

Noyac

  • A Noyac man had his identity and more than $19,000 stolen from his credit account sometime around Dec. 3. According to police, the victim filed a report on Dec. 13 and said that on two occasions an unknown person transferred funds from his line of credit to a separate account and then wrote checks against that account, which were cashed. The first check was written for a total of $9,960. The second check was cashed for $9,400.

North Haven

  • Someone destroyed the shrubs planted in the center of the traffic circle at Tyndall Road in North Haven. According to police, North Haven officials called 911 on Dec. 12 at around 9:45 a.m. to report the damage, which they believed was done with a vehicle. The shrubs destroyed were on the Tyndall Road side of the circle.

  • Police responded to a fight between two women on North Sea Mecox Road on Dec. 8. According to police, one woman had driven to visit a male friend at around 11 p.m., but when she got there another woman came to the door and confronted her. The two women began to argue and the woman who answered the door slapped the visitor in the face and then pulled her to the ground by her hair. The man broke up the fight and the victim of the attack waited on the roadside for police to arrive. Police took down a statement from the victim and are awaiting a decision from the woman whether she wishes to press charges for harassment.

Southampton

  • Police are looking for the person who struck a utility pole and then took off without reporting the accident on Dec. 10. According to police someone was taking the turn at Sugarloaf Road and Highland Road sometime around 9:15 p.m. when they failed to negotiate the curve and struck the pole, breaking it. Police said the motorist then fled in an unknown direction.
