Handgun fire coming from a beach on the Shinnecock Indian Reservation struck a home in Shinnecock Hills late Sunday night, according to police.
A resident of Little Neck Road called 911 at 11:24 p.m. to report hearing gunfire in the area after a glass storm door was shattered, police said.
When patrol officers responded to the scene, they heard more gunfire coming from the east, according to police. To the east, across Old Fort Pond, is the .
detectives and New York State troopers were called in to help investigate, as well as the Suffolk County Police Department Aviation Unit, which swept the area with a helicopter, according to town police.
State troopers went onto the reservation to Little Beach, where shell casings from various caliber handguns were found, police said. Meanwhile, town detectives processed the scene at the Little Neck Road home and recovered what appeared to be a projectile from a firearm, according to police.
The Suffolk helicopter canvassed the area to no avail, police said.
