Police: Cutchogue Man Arrested for Driving While Ability Impaired by Drugs

The Southampton Town Police have arrested a Cutchogue man for driving while ability impaired by drugs, a misdemeanor; criminal possession of a controlled substance, a misdemeanor; unlawful possession of marijuana, a violation; and a traffic infraction.

On Monday, June 2, at about 5:48 a.m. on CR105/SR 24 James K. Smith, 53, was stopped for a traffic infraction. A subsequent investigation found him to be under the influence of drugs and in possession of a crack pipe, marijuana and crack cocaine.

He was arrested at the scene and transported to police headquarters for processing and held for a morning arraignment.
