Police: Cement Truck Strikes LIRR Crossing Gate

Also, a North Sea man was robbed of valuables kept inside his truck.

The following incidents were reported by the Town of Southampton Police Department for the week of Jan. 20.

Southampton

  • A cement mixer reportedly collided with the arm of the crossing gate at the MaGee Street railroad crossing on Jan. 17. According to police a passing motorist saw the truck collide with the crossing arm at around 10 a.m., damaging it, before speeding off without reporting the accident. Police are still investigating.

North Sea

  • A North Sea man called 911 on Jan. 16 to report that someone had broken into his truck and stolen a work bag filled with valuables. According to police, at some point during the previous night someone went into the victim’s 2003 Dodge and took a blue duffel bag from the passenger side seat while the truck was parked in the driveway of his home on Millstone Drive. Police said the truck was left unlocked at the time of the theft. Inside the bag were iPhone chargers, work gloves and a black iPhone 4, all totaling $470 in value.

Sag Harbor

  • Police are looking into a burglary on Brick Kiln Road that reportedly occurred on Jan. 17. According to police the homeowner was advised of an alarm trigger at the Sag Harbor residence and called 911 at around 12:30 p.m. According to police whoever broke into the house did so by smashing the window of the TV room, located at the rear of the house. Police said the burglar(s) entered the house and then left, without apparently taking anything. The investigation is ongoing.
