Police: Accident Uptick Due to Icy Road Conditions

Southampton Town police are advising drivers to stay off the roads.

Police are warning drivers Friday to use extreme caution when out on the roads due to icy conditions.

Southampton Town police said said the hazardous road conditions are due to freezing rain throughout the town. "Please stay off roadways unless absolutely necessary and use extreme caution in such cases," Lt. James Kiernan wrote.

A Suffolk County police spokeswoman said car accidents were higher than normal for a Friday afternoon and advises that residents drive only if they have to. Also, multiple "spin outs" were reported on Sunrise Highway.
