No Decision Yet on Sagaponack Village Police Force

Majority of board in favor of forming new police department, 27East reports.

Officials in Sagaponack delayed a vote on whether to form a police department in the village.

27East reported that at a meeting held to discuss the topic on Saturday at least three of the five village trustees are leaning towards approving the formation of its own police force.

Residents are mixed on whether they want to move from being patrolled by the Southampton Town Police Department to officers from its own full-time department, the website reported.

The village board will meet again to discuss the issue on Sept. 16.
