Nissequogue River Flooding Swamps Paul T. Given Park

Storm pushes high tide closer to major road.

If the tide gets any higher, Route 25 could be in trouble.

During Monday's noontime high tide, the river had flooded the Paul T. Given County Park, with the water line touching the bottom of the Route 25 bridge.

Hurricane Sandy is expected to bring lashing winds and rain to the region, though one of the behemoth storm's worst effects is expected to be the storm surge during high tides.

The Town of Smithtown has already asked locals in Level 1 flood zones to evacuate, mostly in Nissequogue, though the town has not declared a state of emergency.

Tide is still not receding. The river has come over the road and across Landing Ave north of the bridge.
