Man Suffers Severe Neck Injury in Backhoe Accident

A man suffered a severe neck injury during a backhoe accident at nursery Monday morning in North Sea.
The victim was working on a backhoe when the arm of the machine released and struck him in the neck, police said. Sgt. Michael Joyce said officers were called to the Sandy Hollow Road address at 8:33 a.m.
A nearby worker who witnessed the accident started the backhoe and lifted the arm off the victim's neck, Joyce said. responded and transported the man to . He was then transferred to Stony Brook University Medical Center.

Joyce said that due to privacy regulations, no further characterizations can be made about the injuries. The victim's name was not immediately available, he added.
