Southampton Town police arrested a North Haven man on a gun possession charge after a 911 caller reported screaming early Saturday morning.
Police said the call came from a neighbor, at 1:21 a.m.. The officer who responded to investigate heard screams coming from 48-year-old Conrad E. Sump's bedroom window — and spotted a loaded .45 caliber pistol on Sump's bed.
Sump was directed to exit his house, and he did, police said. He was taken into custody without further incident.
Police said Sump was alone, and they could not ascertain the reason for the screaming.
He did not have a permit for the handgun, and was charged with criminal possession of a weapon in the fourth degree, a misdemeanor.
