Jurassic Parked: Cops Say Driver Was High
Dinosaur statues destroyed during car accident.
Southampton Town police said the man who drove off County Road 39 Tuesday afternoon and came to a stop only after mowing down several statues of dinosaurs outside a business was under the influence of drugs at the time.
The accident was reported at 12:31 p.m., Sgt. John Boden said. The driver, Christopher Spano, 31, of Manorville, was driving eastbound on County Road 39 when he crossed over two westbound lanes and onto the property of Yesterday's Treasures, he said.
A Superman statue is usually standing outside Yesterday's Treasures. The car, a Nissan, missed that statue. The dinosaurs and a couple cows weren't as lucky. Commenting on the first Patch story regarding the accident, readers jokes that Superman just stood there and did nothing during the accident. Others were just happy the pink elephant statue was unharmed.
Spano was charged with driving while ability impaired by drugs, a misdemeanor, and moving from lane unsafely, a traffic infraction.
