Inlet Road West House Sustains Heavy Damage in Sunday Morning Fire

First structure fire of the year for Southampton Fire Department

An Inlet Road West house in Southampton caught fire Sunday morning and sustained heavy smoke and fire damage, according to a spokesman.

Captain Chris Brenner said the fire department was called in at 9:52 a.m. When the first units arrived, it was reported as a working structure fire and the house's enclosed porch was fully engulfed in flames, he said.

"Crews were able to knock the fire down in approximately 15 minutes," Brenner said, adding that the scene was cleared in two hours.
