Incident Reports: $10,000 in Jewelry Taken From Water Mill Home

Crimes reported to Southampton Town police through March 25.

Crimes and suspicious incidents recently reported to the Southampton Town Police Department:

Burglary

• A Water Mill resident told police on March 23 that someone entered his house and stole a television, valued at $2,500; a computer, valued at $1,500; boxes of new sneakers, valued at $1,375; jewelry, valued at over $10,000. The resident believes the burglar entered through a broken basement window. Police are investigating.

• A Westhampton resident told police on March 18 that sometime between March 18 and March 12 someone broke into his home stealing a .22 caliber riffle and a 12-gauge shotgun. Also taken were gold bracelets, wrist watches and cufflinks. 

• A Hampton Bays resident reported to police on March 22 that someone entered his home and stole various items. The burglar is believed to have entered through a basement window. Police are investigating

Petty Larceny

• A Laurel resident reported to police on March 22 that someone stole a laptop that he rented from Rent-A-Center from his car, which was parked in Flanders overnight.

Grand Larceny

• A Hampton Bays woman was duped out of $2,179 after she responded to a Craigslist employment ad asking people to send money-grams to the Philippines and in return get $300. The resident said she got a check back from her “employer” but it bounced.

• A Water Mill resident told police on March 18 that someone stole a log splitter, valued at $1,500 from his residence.

Assault

• A Riverhead man told police on March 22 that he was punched in the face 10 times while at a residence in Quiogue. Police are investigating..

Leaving the Scene

• A Bay Shore man told police that his car was struck in the front bumper while it sat outside Hampton Bays Auto Parks in Hampton Bays on March 18. Witnesses told police that the car was struck by a maroon Nissan pick-up truck.

Criminal Mischief

• A Westhampton resident reported to police on March 18 that someone broke the back window of her residence in an attempt to gain access. Nothing was taken from the home.

• On March 18, police received a report that the SYS baseball field on Majors Patch in Southampton was damaged with tire marks. Police said surveillance video is not available and an investigation is pending.
