Incident Reports: Man Says He Was Attacked at E. Quogue Party

Also in the week's Southampton Town police files, an East Quogue woman says jewelry and medication were stolen from her home and a Southampton caretaker reports a copper theft.

Crimes and suspicious incidents recently reported to the :

Assault

• In East Quogue on May 5, a man told police he was struck by another man who used his fists and feet during the attack while the complainant was leaving a party at a house on Squires Avenue. Police are conducting a search for the assailant.

Leaving the Scene of an Accident

• On April 24, the owners of the Eastport Marina on South Bay Avenue reported that a driver crashed his car into a telephone pole, struck three flag poles with his 2005 Ford Escape SUV while traveling eastbound on County Road 80 and then fled the scene of the impact on foot. A search of the area with the assist of two state K-9 units was conducted but the driver was not located. The car was impounded. The investigation into the incident is continuing. Leaving the scene of an accident with property damage is a traffic infraction.

Burglary

• In Southampton at an Edge of Woods home that is currently unoccupied, a caretaker told police last week that when he last checked on the property he found that copper piping had been removed from the basement of the home. Whoever is responsible for the theft faces a charge of second-degree burglary, a felony. 

Grand Larceny

• In East Quogue on May 2, a woman who lives on Birchwood Lane reported to police that some of her jewelry and prescription medications were taken from a cabinet in her bedroom. Police are investigating the matter.

• On May 4, a Westhampton man reported that someone stole his black 2004 Kawasaki motorcycle, which had been parked on the sidewalk in front of his house on Stewart Avenue.

Issuing a Bad Check

• The owner of a service station on North Sea Road in Southampton complained to police May 4 that a customer issued a check for services to repair his car but later stopped payment on the check after he picked up his vehicle. According to reports, the customer said he stopped payment because he didn't authorize some of the work on the car. Police said the man has 10 days to pay the funds back to the station or he faces a charge of issuing a bad check, misdemeanor.

Harassment

• In Southampton on May 5, a woman who lives on Overlook Drive complained to police that she has been receiving harassing calls from an associate over real estate sales commissions. However, so far she has declined to pursue criminal charges.

• On May 3, a Westhampton woman who resides on Brushy Neck Lane said her landlord, during an altercation, pulled her hair and jerked her head in an aggressive manner. No criminal charges have yet been filed related to the complaint.

• In Flanders May 5, a woman complained to police that she has received at least 10 text messages and 15 phone calls a day the past week from her current boyfriend’s sister who is unhappy about her dating her brother. Police are investigating the complaint. Aggravated harassment is a misdemeanor.

Petty Larceny

• A Southampton man who lives on North Sea Road reported to police May 4 that someone stole some hardware that is essential to operating his pool’s heater. Police are continuing the investigation into the theft.

• In Flanders on April 14, an unknown person entered a vehicle that was parked on Oak Avenue in Flanders during which time a GPS device was stolen. No leads or suspects have been reported at this time.

• An East Quogue man told police that on May 5, his Cannondale Road Warrior bicycle worth $700 was taken from his garage. The garage had been open for two hours, said the man, when the theft occurred.

Attempted Burglary

• In Remsenburg, a man who lives on Mill Road told police May 4 that someone attempted to enter his residence by prying open the front door’s screen. No leads or suspects at this time have been reported related to the incident.

Forgery

• An East Quogue man complained to police last week that someone attempted to use his personal check to purchase $343.39 worth of items from the Hampton Bays Stop & Shop supermarket. If charged, the person responsible faces a charge of petty larceny, a misdemeanor, and second-degree forgery, a class-D felony.

Criminal Mischief

• A man who works as a manager for the St. Andrews community housing area in Southampton told police May 2 that a stop sign is missing from a street there. Whoever is responsible for taking the sign faces a charge of criminal mischief in the fourth degree, a class-A misdemeanor.
