Incident Reports: Man Assaulted in Noyac; Police Catch Up to Hit-and-Run Driver

Also reported to Southampton Town police, three teak chairs missing from backyard; French doors apparently shot out by BB gun; excavator cab smashed.

Crimes and suspicious incidents recently reported to the Southampton Town Police Department east of the Shinnecock Canal:

Assault

• A Noyac man told police June 9 that when he went to visit his friend after midnight that day, he was assaulted. The man said that his friend lives in an apartment above a garage on Noyac Road. When he pulled into the driveway and got out of his vehicle, the resident of the main house on the property punched him in the face, knocking him to the ground, and continued to punch and kick him, causing swelling and facial lacerations, according to the report.

Criminal Mischief

• A Montauk man told police June 3 that he discovered all the windows and the rear-view camera had been broken on his excavator, which was parked on an undeveloped lot on Noyac. The damage was done with rocks and bricks, he said.

• A Sagaponack man told police June 4 that his project manager informed him  the glass on French doors at a Sagg Main Street house was broken, possibly shot out by a BB gun. It will cost $2,800 to replace the doors, he told police.

Identity Theft

• A Southampton woman told police that on May 31 a woman tried to use her identity to cash a personal check for $1,600 at a Bank of America branch in Florida. She said  she received two calls that night from a woman calling herself Christina who said she had checks in the victim's name and asked for personal information.

Larceny

• A Sagaponack man told police June 8 that sometime since the night before three $800 teak chairs went missing from his Old Barn Lane property. He said that all 18 chairs had been accounted for the previous night in the backyard, but the next morning two chairs were in the driveway and three were gone.

• A Bridgehampton woman told police June 6 that while shopping at Kmart someone took her Coach purse from a baby stroller. The dark blue bag contained an Illinois ID, three Visa card, a Chase debit card and $400 cash, according to the incident report.

Burglary

• A Bridgehampton women told police that on May 25 she had left her Woodruff Lane house unlocked when she went out to run errands and when she returned a camera bag on a bench next to a glass door was gone. The bag contained a Nikon D5000 camera, a wide-angle lens and an iPad.

Leaving the Scene of an Accident

• A Southampton man told police June 4 that he was rear-ended when he stopped at a traffic light on Sandy Hollow Road and the other driver fled the scene. Police later contacted the driver who fled and issued several summonses, according to an incident report.
