Incident Reports: Decapitated Deer Left in Driveway

Crimes and suspicious incidents reported to between March 12 and March 18:

Harassment

• A Water Mill man who lives on Roses Grove Road complained that someone left a headless, decaying deer at the base of his driveway. He told police that he believes the deer was left intentionally. The case is active and police are investigating. Whoever is responsible for leaving the dead deer could face a charge of second-degree harassment.

Grand Larceny

• A Sag Harbor man complained to police March 16 that someone used his American Express card to charge $19,425 worth of electronics. He said he found out about the charge after he received an email from the company about the pending delivery of the merchandise. The man was able to cancel the order and subsequently canceled his credit card. He also told police that someone attempted to place a call-forwarding service on his Verizon account. If caught, the person responsible could face charges of third-degree grand larceny and first-degree grand larceny.

• On March 16, a caretaker for a Sagaponack man's home on Sagaponack Road reported that a burglary and grand larceny had occurred at the home sometime after he last checked the property on March 4. Missing are six to eight antique tables, two wood lamps, two Miele vacuum cleaners, a shop vacuum, two TVs, and a laser printer. The estimated value of the stolen items, which were last seen in a gym in a separate structure on the property, is $33,170. 

• A Noyac woman told police March 15 that someone used her credit card to make purchases, such as a pocketbook, payment to a website, and Walk Fit shoe insoles. She canceled her card.

• On March 14, a Hampton Bays man reported that a supply of tools was taken from a detached garage on his property on West Tiana Road. Also missing from the garage is an antique wood-burning stove and the out-drive of a Mercruiser boat. The total value of the missing items, the man said, is $2,080. Police are investigating.  

Burglary

• A man who lives on Townline Road in Sagaponack told police on March 13 that someone stole bottles of liquor from a cabinet while he was away in Florida. Twelve bottles of wine, Scotch, and an English writing table are also missing. The total value of the items is $2,700. Police are looking into the theft.

• In Southampton on March 15, a motel manager at the Hampton Hamlet Inn on Montauk Highway told police that a 30-inch flat-screen TV was taken from one of the motel's rooms. The manager is reviewing surveillance footage in order to discover who took the TV.

Forgery

• A Water Mill man who lives on Oliver Cove Lane reported that someone cashed a check written on his bank account in the amount of $2,850 without his permission. Whoever is responsible could face charges of second-degree forgery and grand larceny, according to police.

Petty Larceny

• A Flanders woman reported March 14 that someone stole her mailbox and its post from her property on Riverside Avenue. Police have no leads at this time.

• A Kindle electronic book reader was taken from a Flanders woman's car March 11. The car was parked at her property on Laurel Avenue. Police said that similar thefts from car break-ins have been reported in the area recently.
