Incident Reports: Copper Thieves Strike

Also reported to Southampton Town police, tools and jewelry go missing in various larcenies and burglaries.

Crimes and suspicious incidents recently reported to the Southampton Town Police Department:

Burglary

• A Franklin Square man told police on April 6 that sometime since March 1, someone entered a Island Creek Road house in Southampton and took a tool bag filled will numerous tools valued at $1,000, some copper piping, a Mercury boat motor valued at $2,000 and three ratchet tool sets, valued at $130. According to the incident report, a large cinder block was thrown through a sliding glass door to gain entry, and the copper piping was taken from basement plumbing.

Police stated in a separate incident report that while canvassing the neighborhood in reference to the Island Creek Road burglary, it was discovered that another house on the same street had been broken into. Copper piping was taken from the hot water heater in the shed of the property.

• A North Sea man told police April 3 that sometime between March 25 and 29, someone took a $400 diamond earrings, $200 pearl earrings, six pieces of miscellaneous jewelry valued at $500 a bottle of muscle relaxers and an $800 white gold pendant inscribed “9/18/10” from his home.

Grand Larceny

• A Sag Harbor man reported that overnight from April 1 to 2, two air conditioner condensers went missing, and then from April 5 to 6, four 12-foot Leyland Cypress trees also went missing from a Noyac Road location.

• A Southampton man told police April 2 that sometime between the day before and then, someone took two RedMax 8500 backpack leaf blowers, valued at $1,200, from the bed of his pickup truck.
