Incident Report: Woman Awakes to Stranger in Doorway

Also this week, a Mercedes SUV with its keys on the driver's side floor was taken overnight from a Sag Harbor street.

Crimes and suspicious incidents recently reported to the Southampton Town Police Department:

Grand Larceny

•  A Finger Lakes, N.J. woman reported to Southampton Town police that her 2013 Mercedes Benz had been stolen from Cliff Drive in Sag Harbor after she left the car unlocked and the keys on the driver’s side floor overnight.

The G-550 model, estimated to be about $125,000, was parked on the side of the road between 6 p.m. Friday night and 11 a.m. Saturday morning.

According to a police report, the SUV is white, had no front plate, and the woman had called a Mercedes Benz service dealer to see if they could track it, only to find out she had declined the service when the vehicle was purchased.

• A Bridgehampton homeowner reported on Wednesday that nearly $24,000 in household items, including dining chairs, lounge chairs, planters and more, were stolen from his home.

Ten chairs, valued at $1,000 each were reported stolen, as were six pool chairs valued at $2,000 each, three tables valued at $800, two foot stools valued at $400, and two planters valued at $700. 

The man reported that someone had been cutting his lawn on a trial basis, and he had told her that upon his return from Italy, he would pay her. The case remains open.

• A Bridgehampton resident reported that between July 1 and July 8, someone stole two compressors from his Bridgehampton-Sag Harbor Turnpike home, valued at a total of $4,000.

Criminal Trespassing

• A North Sea woman reported that on July 9 around 3 a.m. she awoke to find someone standing in her doorway. The man reportedly said he was lost and pulled out an air conditioning unit to gain access to the home. No damage or items were reported missing or broken, and she just wished to document the incident.

• A Greenwich, Conn. woman reported that between midnight and 8:45 a.m. on Sunday, someone opened her unlocked Honda CRV and took a leather tote, sunglasses, her Kate Spade wallet, credit cards, cash and ID’s.

The woman, who had parked her car at Club on the Bay in Shinnecock Hills, eventually recovered everything on the other side of the road, beside $35 cash.
