Incident Report: Materials Stolen from Job Site

Also this week, a man reported that someone tried to secure a $45,000 loan through his name, to no avail.

Crimes and suspicious incident recently reported to the Southampton Town police, east of the Shinnecock Canal.

• A Willow Road resident reported that between July 24 and Aug. 15, a gold bracelet valued at $4,000 went missing from his home, as well as six porcelain figurines. However the man said that because there was no physical evidence left, he may have misplaced the safe and cabinet in which they were missing.

• A caretaker for a Bridgehampton home reported that between Aug. 12 and Aug. 13, a pool heater was stolen from the home. According to a report, the man showed up at the home in the morning to find the front entrance gate damaged, the pool heater missing, and marks along the lawn, likely from the heater being dragged.

• A business owner reported that between Saturday, Aug. 10 and Monday, Aug. 12, someone stole over $1,200 in construction materials from a job site on Dundee Lane in Southampton.

According to a police report, $800 in metal straps, $400 in galvanized coil and air nails were all taken from the site. The report stated that a witness spotted a “suspicious subject” who reportedly stopped at the site and checked under several tarps.

• A Southampton man reported being the victim of identity theft on Aug. 12. According to a police report, someone attempted to secure a $45,000 loan in his name, though Bank Santander’s fraud department flagged the loan.

• A Water Mill man reported on Aug. 17 that someone attempted to forge two checks in his name, totaling $2,330. He was reportedly notified by the person who was issued the first check, and upon contacting his bank, placed a stop on his checking account.

• A resident of Bay Avenue in Noyack reported that between Aug. 12 and Aug. 15, someone threw a brick through one of his windows and stole 20 $1 bills, six to eight bottles of liquor valued at $200, and two Huffy bikes valued at $200.
