Identification of Sag Harbor Crash Victims Still Pending

Police say they are awaiting confirmation from the medical examiner.

said Monday they are awaiting positive identification from the Suffolk County medical examiner's office before releasing the names of the victims of .

"Due to the nature of the crash and resulting fire the identification process is not as immediate as normally experienced," Det. Sgt. Randy Hintze wrote in an e-mail to the media. He said an update will be released when the results are made available to police and families have been notified. "This process is being done as expeditiously as possible."

Police reported that two people died in the single-car accident on Brick Kiln Road Saturday afternoon. A 2006 Ford Mustang was driving west when it went off the road, striking a tree and bursting into flames, police said.
