Hot Ashes Set Townline BBQ Deck on Fire

A small fire was extinguished by the Bridgehampton Fire Department Thursday afternoon.

There was a scare at in Sagaponack on Thursday afternoon when a deck in the rear of the building caught fire, according to Bridgehampton firefighters.

Gary Horsburgh, the first assistant fire chief for , said employees had dumped ashes in a receptacle outside and the wind blew hot embers under the deck. The fire was swiftly extinguished.

Horsburgh said it could have been a lot worse and advised that people take care with ashes, covering them, especially in high winds.

The decking was an employee only area — and not the same deck where diners can eat outside. The restaurant is back open.
