Seventy Firefighters Respond to Barn Fire in Water Mill

Southampton, Bridgehampton, North Sea and Bridgehampton fire departments respond Saturday night to a fire on Halsey Lane.

Approximately 70 firefighters from four fire departments responded to a barn fire in Water Mill Saturday night on Halsey Lane.

The 911 call came in at 7:53 p.m., said Sgt. Howard Kalb. Captain Chris Brenner said Chief Rodney Pierson was the first on scene and , and Hampton Bays fire departments were all called in to assist Southampton firefighters.

The small barn was fully engulfed in flame and two fuel tanks were threatened by the fire, Brenner said. However, the fire was extinguished within 20 to 30 minutes and two adjacent buildings were saved, he said. The barn was a total loss, he added.

, and responded for firefighter assessments. No injuries were reported.

Southampton Town fire marshals are investigating the cause of the fire, Brenner said.

By 10:15 p.m., all fighters cleared the seen, Brenner said.
