Fire Dept. Blood Drive Is Tuesday

Give blood at the Hampton Road firehouse on Jan. 24.

The 's semiannual blood drive is coming Tuesday to the new in Southampton Village.

"Giving blood is giving the gift of life," Capt. Chris Brenner said. "It is so important that, if we are able to give blood, to get out and donate."

"We are coming up on a season that is very cold and it holds a lot of people back and that causes severe shortages," Brenner continued. "So whoever can get out and donate, please do. You never know when you or a loved one might need the gift of life."

Donors can give blood between 1:15 and 8:15 p.m. at the .

Donors must be at least 17 years old (16 years old with written permission from their parent or legal guardian), weigh 110 pounds and be in good health. Donors ages 16 to 18 are also subject to additional height/weight restrictions.

Donors age 76 and older can continue to donate blood if they meet all donor criteria and present a physician's letter allowing them to donate.
