Eight Agencies Respond To Water Mill Blaze Tuesday

A house on Woodthrush Lane reportedly caught fire after a lightning strike.

Update, 9:40 p.m.: All firefighters have returned to their firehouses after a grueling six hours fighting a blaze in Water Mill on Tuesday. 

The North Sea Fire Department left Woodthrush Lane sometime before 9 p.m. The initial call was at 1:51 p.m., according to Southampton Town police. Despite the firefighters' best efforts, flames continued to shoot out of the roof, while they attacked it with water from Southampton Fire Department's ladder truck.

Southampton Town Fire Marshal's office was called into investigate, though the fire reportedly started when lightning struck during Tuesday afternoon's thunderstorm. 

No injuries were reported, but the house sustained severe damage. 

In addition to Southampton and North Sea fire departments, Hampton Bays, Sag Harbor, Amagansett, and East Hampton firefighters responded. The Southampton Volunteer Ambulance stood-by. Also, emergency medical technicians with the Bridgehampton Fire Department brought its rehabilitation van to help medically clear firefighters afterwards. 

A Bridgehampton Fire Department engine also stood-by at North Sea's headquarters.

Update, 4:10 p.m.:  Though the fire at a house on Woodthrush Lane appeared to be under control, flames were reportedly shooting through the roof at about 3:30 p.m., causing more apparatus and manpower to be called in. 

The North Sea Fire Department, whose jurisdiction the blaze is located in, called for engines from Amagansett and East Hampton fire departments, as well as a rehab vehicle from Bridgehampton Fire Department to assist in medically clearing firefighters.

The fire broke out before 2 p.m., after the house was reportedly hit by lightning. 

Previously, 2 p.m.: Several fire departments have responded to a house fire on Woodthrush Lane, off Deerfield Road, in Water Mill on Tuesday afternoon.

The house was reportedly struck by lightning, during the thunderstorm, though that could not be confirmed immediately. 

The North Sea Fire Department, whose jurisdiction the blaze is in, called for help from the Sag Harbor and Southampton fire departments just before 2 p.m.

Sag Harbor's tanker and pumper went to the house, located at 68 Woodthrush Lane. Southampton Fire Department also responded with an engine and tanker. The Bridgehampton Fire Department was called to stand-by at North Sea Fire Department's firehouse.

No further details were immediately available.

Inlet Seafood Restaurant in Montauk was struck by lightning on Monday afternoon, causing minor damage to the building.
