DWI Checkpoint Yields 10 Arrests

Charges range from marijuana possession to criminal handgun possession.

In an interagency effort, a DWI checkpoint set up on County Road 39A Saturday night yielded 10 arrests in four hours, according to Southampton Town police.

In addition to , the and the Suffolk County sheriff's office participated in the checkpoint between Montauk Highway and Flying Point Road. The sheriff's office rolled out its Breath Alcohol Testing Mobile Unit, also know at

The checkpoint was set up between 11 p.m. Saturday and 3 a.m. Sunday. Several arrests related to driving while intoxicated or marijuana, but other charged arose as well.

James Stilley, 55, of Southampton was arrested by town police and charged with criminal possession of a weapon in the second degree, a felony, and in the fourth degree, a misdemeanor; criminal possession of a controlled substance in the third and fifth degrees, felonies, and in seventh degree, a misdemeanor; and criminal possession of marijuana in the fourth degree, a misdemeanor. Police said Stilley was a passenger in a vehicle and he was found to possess a loaded 9-millimeter handgun, a quantity of cocaine, a quantity of oxycodone and more than 2 ounces of marijuana after officers originally smelled a strong odor of marijuana coming from the vehicle as it entered the safety check.

Helen Curtis, 29, of New York City was arrested by town police and charged with DWI, a misdemeanor.

Hugo Rojas-Ortiz, 46, of Sunnyside was arrested by town police and charged with DWI.

A 23-year-old East Hampton man was arrested by town police and charged with unlawful possession of marijuana, a violation.

A 30-year-old Sag Harbor man was arrested by town police and charged with unlawful possession of marijuana, a violation.

Seth Greenberg, 50, of Miami Beach, Florida, was arrested by the sheriff's office and charged with DWI and aggravated unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle in the third degree, both misdemeanors.

Christopher DeVaughn, 25, of Washington, D.C., was arrested by the sheriff's office and charged with DWI.

Justin Montoya, 28, of New York City was arrested by village police and charged with DWI.

Rosko Pascale, 61, of Center Moriches, was arrested by village police and charged with DWI.

A 25-year-old East Hampton man was arrested by village police and charged with unlawful possession of marijuana, a violation, and aggravated unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle in the second degree, a misdemeanor.

A criminal charge is only an accusation, and does not indicate guilt.
