The National Weather service issued a warning earlier today that low humidity, gusty 18 to 20 mile per hour winds and this month's low precipitation posed an elevated risk of wildfires.
According to Riverhead Local Manorville firefighters fought two wildfires today and brush fires erupted in Eastport, Westhampton, Bellport, Bridgehampton and Nissequogue.
Manorville FD Chief Howard Snow told Riverhead Local more than two acres had burned this afternoon and another acre and a half earlier in the day. The fires have all been contained and no one was injured.
Snow and his colleague, Fire Marshal Craig Zitek are investigating both fires in Manorville as suspicious.
The National Weather Service forecasts much-need rain beginning tonight and lasting through the weekend ending the risk of further brush fires.
