Crimes Nearby: Two Charged With Fleeing Accidents

A round-up of recent notable arrests and incidents on the East End:

WESTHAMPTON-HAMPTON BAYS

• John Reha, 32, of Deer Park, was arrested Nov. 30 at 4:57 p.m. at the corner of Sunrise Highway and Flanders Road in Hampton Bays and charged with leaving the scene of an accident with property damage and third-degree unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle, both misdemeanors. Police said Reha was in an accident with physical injuries, and left the scene. Officers later identified Reha’s car, a 1997 Mercedes, and apprehended him, according to his arrest report.

• Jose Rivera, 31, of Hampton Bays, was arrested Nov. 23 at 3:03 p.m. at police headquarters in Hampton Bays and charged with leaving the scene of an accident with personal injuries, a misdemeanor, and unlicensed operator, a violation. Police say Rivera was in an accident on Springville Road on Nov. 13 and then ran away before police arrived. Officers used a K9 team to locate Rivera at the time of the accident, but could not find him. He was later tracked down through an investigation, according to his arrest report.

• Southampton Town police arrested a 39-year-old Northampton woman after she attacked a repossession agent with a large barbecue fork Nov. 29, according to police. The repossession agent arrived at the home of Carolyn Parker on Nov. 29 around midnight and tried to tow away a car parked in her driveway that she had defaulted payments on, police said. Police said Parker attacked the agent with a large barbecue fork when he tried to tow the vehicle. he hit the repossession agent’s vehicle with the fork, causing minor damages and scratches, according to a police report. Police said Parker then thrust the fork inside the agent’s car and tried to stab him. Parker was arrested at 1:20 a.m. and charged with third-degree criminal possession of a weapon, a felony, and fourth-degree criminal mischief and second-degree menacing, both misdemeanors. Officers did not know what type of car the agent was repossessing.

• Riverhead police arrested Kenneth Bailey on Nov. 30 and charged him with menacing, fleeing an officer, and reckless driving after police said Bailey threatened to kill a Riverhead woman and then led police on a high speed chase on Nov. 29 and escaped. The alleged victim said Bailey, an aquantaince, knocked on the front door of her residence on the night of Nov. 28, police said. After she opened the door, Bailey pushed his way into the residence, yelling and refusing to leave, according to a police report. Bailey then allegedly grabbed the victim by the arm, pulled a knife from his pants, and threatened to kill her. The victim ran from the home and Bailey fled into his black four-door Mercedes as police arrived, according to a report of the incident. Police said the woman was examined by ambulance volunteers and had difficulty breathing but refused transport to Peconic Bay Medical Center. On Nov. 30, police reported arresting Bailey on charges of second-degree menacing, fleeing a police officer, and other traffic violations. Information on the circumstances of his arrest was not available at this time.

EAST HAMPTON

Animal rights activist and Montauk resident Bill Crain, who often protests deer hunting in East Hampton, was arrested on Monday in New Jersey, where he was protesting a black bear hunt. According to The Star Ledger, Crain refused to move from the front of the a Sussex County weigh-in station. Crain later told reporters it was an act of civil disobedience.

• East Hampton Village police arrested Ronald A. King, 57, of East Hampton, on a drug charge on Nov. 29 at 4:53 p.m. Police said they were called to assist probation officers and King was found to have violated his parole. He allegedly had 2.5 Vicodin pills on the dresser in his bedroom. Bail information was not immediately available.
