• This week, police released the name of a man arrested following the St. Patrick's Day parade in Montauk on March 17.

Jorge E. Meza, 29, of East Hampton, is facing charges of reckless driving and third-degree fleeing an officer in a motor vehicle, both misdemeanors. Police on foot patrol said they saw a Suzuki motorcycle heading west in the eastbound lane, passing several vehicles that were stopped in traffic after the parade. As the motorcycle pulled into traffic on Montauk Highway, police told the driver to pull over into the shoulder, shut the engine off and take off his helmet.

Instead, Meza sped off at a high rate of speed west in the eastbound lane. The officer alerted other law enforcement officials working in Montauk, and Shelter Island Police Officer Christopher Drake, also on foot patrol, attempted to stop the motorcycle. Meza swerved around the officer, "narrowly missing him in an attempt to get away," the report said. He was eventually stopped by several officers in marked police cars on South Emerson Avenue.

Meza was initially charged with reckless driving and released on his own recognizance with an appearance ticket for arraignment in East Hampton Town Justice Court on April 10. After discussion with the Suffolk County district attorney's office, police additionally charged him with fleeing a police officer.

• An East Hampton man with a history of drunken driving convictions took someone’s car out for a joyride and is now being held at the jail on a total of $30,200 cash and $101,000 bond following an arrest on Sunday, according to East Hampton Town police.

Diego A. Sisalima Carchipulla, who is 24, was arrested in Wainscott at about 1:15 a.m., following a tip about an erratic driver. A white sedan was reported to be "all over the roadway" traveling west on Montauk Highway. Police found the driver inside the Hess-mart.

While police looked up information on the 1997 Mercury, the driver got back behind the wheel and proceeded to pull out and head east. Police said he did not signal while making a left onto the highway. The officer followed the vehicle, which slowed to 20 mph and then sped back up to 40 mph several times, the report said. The vehicle also reportedly drifted halfway into the westbound lane before the driver tried to correct it, only to drift into the eastbound shoulder.
