Crimes Nearby: Sexual Assault of a Child Reported in East Hampton

The following information was supplied by East End police departments. A criminal charge is only an accusation, and does not indicate convictions.

A round-up of recent notable arrests and incidents from other areas on the East End:

NORTH FORK

Jared Martin, 21, of New Suffolk, was charged with seventh degree criminal possession of a controlled substance on Nov. 3 at 9:52 a.m. after Southold Town Police stopped him on Elijahs Lane in Mattituck for driving a 1989 GMC suburban with a suspended license, police said. Police found a pill that was later identified as a controlled substance and an amount of marijuana in the vehicle, police said. Martin was arrested and processed at police headquarters and later released on bail.

Dorothy Guthrie, 41, of Laurel, was charged with driving while impaired by drugs on Nov. 3 at 5:20 p.m. after police responded to the scene of a car accident in which Guthrie was involved on Bray Avenue in Laurel, police said. After investigation, was found to be impaired by drugs and was arrested and held overnight at police headquarters in Peconic pending arraignment.

Yimi Escamilla, 32, of Riverhead, was charged with aggravated unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle on Nov. 5 at 8:37 p.m., after Southold Town Police stopped him for a traffic violation on Route 48 in Mattituck, police said. After investigation, police found that Escamilla had a suspended license and also had an active warrant for his arrest, police said. He was arrested and transported to headquarters in Peconic where he was held for the Suffolk County Fugitive Squad.

EAST HAMPTON

Mario G. Colon, 42, of the Bronx, was arrested after he allegedly was found with items that belonged to the, where he worked last month. said they were called down to the club on Oct. 23 after Colon and another employee allegedly took 10 bottles of Champagne, valued at a total of $100, silverware, worth $100, about $50 in linens and about $20 in cleaning supplies.

The items were found in the car, after the police were called. Their boss did not want to press charges at the time, but the employees were told they were not allowed at the club again.

However, Colon was arrested on Nov. 4, though police did not indicate what occurred in between. He was charged with fifth-degree criminal possession of stolen property and petty larceny, both misdemeanors. Catherine A. Cahill released him on $240 bail.

A 49-year-old Montauk business owner related to the sexual assault of a child.

East Hampton Town police announced on Monday that Paul S. Apostolides, who also lives in Islip, is being held on $150,000 bail following an arraignment in Suffolk County Criminal Court. He pleaded not guilty before Judge Barbara Kahn on Nov. 4.

RIVERHEAD

Jose Arriaza, 35, of Riverhead, was arrested early on Nov. 6 at the corner of Flanders Road and Kirk Avenue in Riverside and charged with DWI, a misdemeanor. Arriaza was stopped around 2 a.m. for unsafely passing another vehicle and speeding when police discovered he was intoxicated, police said.

WESTHAMPTON-HAMPTON BAYS

Yuri Vasquez, 23, of Hampton Bays, was arrested Nov. 6 at 2:46 a.m. on North Road in Southampton and charged with DWI, a misdemeanor. Vasquez was stopped for speeding when police said that she appeared intoxicated.

Mayra Medina, 23, of East Quogue, was arrested Nov. 5 at 3:39 a.m. at the intersection of Sunrise Highway and County Road 24 in East Quogue. She was charged with DWI, a misdemeanor. Medina was stopped for driving out of lane when police said that she appeared intoxicated.
