Crimes Nearby: Man Snuck into Home, Drove Car, Police Say

The following information was supplied by police departments on the East End. A criminal charge is only an accusation and does not indicate convictions.

Recent arrests from elsewhere on the East End:

WESTHAMPTON & HAMPTON BAYS

• Westhampton Beach police said they have arrested Trevor Harris, 37, of Westhampton, on burglary and grand larceny charges. Police said they nabbed Harris after they found he entered an unoccupied home on Beach Lane and used the homeowner's car, police said. Police believe Harris gained access to the home and the car through a back window or door. "He was using it as a flop house," said Chief Raymond Dean, who also noted that this is not the first time that police have caught Harris in a home that did not belong to him. "He is a repeat offender," Dean said. Police arrested Harris on the street in front of the home.

• Dennis Joseph Malerba, 31, of Westhampton, was, a felony, after police said an investigation revealed that Malerba had stolen more than $3,000 worth of jewelry from an Eastport residence. He was processed and held for arraignment.

RIVERHEAD

• A Riverhead and Baiting Hollow man were arrested on Monday night after Southampton Town police said they were under the influence of, and in criminal possession of, drugs. According to police reports, Gregory Koplinka, 25, of Riverhead, was stopped for speeding at 11 p.m. while driving in Flanders. Police said he appeared to be under the influence of marijuana. He was charged with driving while ability impaired by drugs and cited for unlawful possession of marijuana and traffic violations. Philip Liquori, 24, of Baiting Hollow, was charged with criminal possession of marijuana in the fifth degree.

EAST HAMPTON

• Four copper drain pipes were reported stolen from a house under construction on Further Lane in East Hampton sometime between Jan. 29 and Feb. 19. East Hampton town police were given an estimate of $5,400 to replace the pipes.

• Just more than $7,000 in copper gutters were stolen from a house on Ocean View Lane in Amagansett between Feb. 13 and 19. The homeowner noticed severa sections of the gutters gone on the back and side of the house.

NORTH FORK

• Thomas Hynes, 18, of Coram, was charged with three counts of seventh-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance and unlawful possession of marijuana on Feb. 23 at 11:24 p.m. in Mattituck, after he was pulled over for a traffic violation on Route 25, police said. The officer on the scene observed marijuana in the vehicle, and after further investigation, various prescription medications were also located in vehicle along with several potentially stolen items, police said. Investigation into the circumstances surrounding those possibly stolen items recovered continues, police said.
