Crimes Nearby: Man Shot in the Face with an Air Rifle

Also: Hess in Riverhead robbed at gunpoint.

The following information was supplied by the East End Police Departments. A criminal charge is only an accusation and does not indicate guilt.

RIVERHEAD

• A dispute between two local teens led to one being stabbed with a box cutter and the other being arrested, police said. Authorities said they responded to a call about a stabbing on Saturday at 4:24 p.m. at a deli on Railroad Avenue in Riverhead. 

Upon arrival, police found the male victim, 16, of Calverton, who said he'd been involved in a dispute with another young man, Jvon Creighton, 18, of Riverhead, who allegedly cut the teen with a box cutter. Creighton fled the scene on foot, police said; he was later apprehended by officers canvassing the area. The victim was taken to Peconic Bay Medical Center for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries and released.

Creighton was charged with assault in the second degree, a felony, and taken to Riverhead police headquarters.

• A Hess station on Route 58 near the Tanger Outlets was robbed at gaunpoint Friday night, police said. According to Riverhead police, a call was received Friday at 10:35 p.m. about a robbery in progress at the Hess Mart. The victim, a Hess employee, told police that two men brandishing handguns forced him behind the counter and demanded the money from the register. The two men removed cash and cigarettes at gunpoint and fled on foot, police said. K-9 units from both New York State and Southold police assisted in the investigation, which is still ongoing. Anyone with information about the robbery is asked to call the Riverhead police detective division at 631-727-4500.

• A Riverhead man was slapped with a felony driving while intoxicated charge on Sunday. According to New York State Police, Damon Sawyer, 47, was stopped for speeding on County Road 51 in Riverside at 6:30 p.m. Police said Sawyer was found to be intoxicated and was arrested charged with DWI, a felony. 

WESTHAMPTON-HAMPTON BAYS

• A Hampton Bays man was arrested on a host of charges, including burglary, on Sept. 11. According to police, Wayne Sapiane, 59, was picked up at around 6:30 p.m. on Squiretown Road after his friend called 911 and reported him for burglarizing his home on the same street. When police stopped Sapiane they reportedly found marijuana in his possession. They said he was in violation of his parole. Sapiane was charged with second-degree burglary, a felony, second-degree criminal impersonation, a misdemeanor, unlawful possession of marijuana, a violation, and parole violation.

• A resident on Stewart Avenue was robbed in his home by someone he knew in the late evening hours of Sept. 9. According to police the victim was sleeping in his bed at around 11 p.m. when the thief entered his home and stole somewhere in the vicinity of $1,000 from his shorts. The victim woke up and confronted the robber, who punched him in the face and grappled with him in the bedroom. The suspect eventually fled the home in an unknown direction with the money. Police responded and the case is still being investigated.

NORTH FORK

• A Laurel man was arrested Sunday after police said he shot a victim in the face with an air rifle. According to Southold Town police, Brayan Cahueque, 23, was arrested at 4 p.m. in Laurel after police said he shot another 23-year-old-man during a fight, striking him in the face and causing a large laceration. The victim was taken to Peconic Bay Medical Center for treatment of his injury. Cahueque was arrested outside his home and charged with assault in the second degree, a felony, police said. 

• A man was arrested after police said he ripped the gold chain off a man's neck, punched him in the face, and fled from authorities in Greenport early Thursday morning.

According to Southold Town police, a call was received at 12:56 a.m. from a man in the Adams Street parking lot in the the village, who said a man had forcibly ripped the chain from his neck, punched him, and fled in a vehicle. Responding officers broadcast a description of the suspect and his vehicle to all sectors, and the car was later spotted in the Peconic area.

Three police units that attempted to stop the vehicle were led on a brief chase until the suspect crashed his vehicle on Rt. 25 in Cutchogue, police said. The car was reportedly stolen from Southampton Town.

Police arrested Joseph T. Reiter, 35, of Riverhead, and charged with robbery in the third degree, a felony, criminal possession of stolen property in the fourth degree, a felony, unlawful fleeing from a police officer in the third degree, a misdemeanor, and unlawful possession of marijuana, a violation.

EAST HAMPTON

• Christopher S. Pulido, 23, of East Hampton, is being held on $7,000 cash or $14,000 bond at the Suffolk County jail in Riverside after allegedly violating a court order during a domestic dispute on Sept. 6. He was charged with criminal contempt in the first degree, a felony, criminal mischief in the fourth degree, a misdemeanor, and two counts of second-degree harassment, a violation, on Three Mile Harbor-Hog Creek Road in Springs at about 11:50 p.m.
