Crimes Nearby: Man Punched Out Over Seat on Boat

The following information was supplied by East End police departments. A criminal charge is only an accusation and does not indicate convictions.

A round-up of some recent arrests and incidents from other areas on the East End:

EAST HAMPTON

• Ray E. Hightower, 38, of Hempstead, was arrested on a charge of third-degree assault, a misdemeanor, after a fight on a boat in Montauk on Dec. 21 at about 4:20 a.m., police said. They found one man unconscious in a seat on the charter boat with injuries to his face. Hightower claimed the other man had instigated the fight over a seat on the boat and reportedly admitted to striking him twice with his fist to get away. The alleged victim was transported to for a cut to his eye that required stitches, swelling and a bruise on his chest. Hightower was released on his own recognizance.

• Flavio R. Zhinin, 22, of East Hampton, was arrested on charges of false personation and second-degree aggravated unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle, both misdemeanors, after a car accident on Dec. 21 at about 11:35 a.m. The airbags in both cars deployed. Zhinin reportedly gave a false name to police, as his driver's license had been suspended. The owner of car was issued a ticket for allowing Zhinin to drive the car. Zhinin is set to be arraigned on Jan. 18. He was released on $500 bail.

RIVERHEAD

• Thomas Calhoun, 41, of Riverhead was arrested Dec. 25 at 10:56 p.m. on Flanders Road in Riverside and charged with DWI, a misdemeanor, as well as leaving the scene of an accident with property damage and driving without a fastened seatbelt, both traffic violations. Police said Calhoun struck two parked cars in a parking lot and onlookers contacted police. His vehicle was seized due to a previous DWI conviction and he was held overnight for arraignment, police said.

• A Middle Island man was arrested on Wednesday after police said he attempted to assault another man in Riverhead family court. Nehemiah Johnson, 23, was charged with resisting arrest, disorderly conduct, and obstruction of governmental administration, according to an arrest report. He was processed and held for arraignment.

• Police arrested a woman after she was found inside a Johns Lane home in Riverhead on the homeowner's couch eating ice cream, police said. Aimee Fitzgerald was arrested and charged with second-degree criminal trespassing on Dec. 17 according to police. Fitzgerald was taken to Peconic Bay Medical Center after she told police she needed medication for a medical condition. After she was evaluated and assisted, Fitzgerald was held on $200 bail, according to a police report.

• A woman was arrested at CVS on Dec. 17 and charged with harassment and petty larceny after she allegedly tried to steal perfume from the store and was involved in a physical altercation when a CVS employee confronted her. Dora Moore, 42, of Riverhead, reportedly stole four perfumes and lotions from the store by hiding them in her pocketbook, according to police. A CVS employee confronted her about the missing items and Moore reportedly began to fight the woman. She was arrested and charged with petty larceny, a misdemeanor, and second-degree harassment, a violation, once police arrived on the scene, according to a police report.

WESTHAMPTON-HAMPTON BAYS

• A 20-year-old Hampton Bays man is being charged with a bevy of violations and misdemeanors after leading a police officer on a short car chase in Hampton Bays just before midnight on Dec. 19, according to police. said Dylan Kovar was speeding southbound on Ponquogue Avenue and ignored the flashing emergency lights of the officer who tried to pull him over. But after a pursuit, the suspect was eventually pulled over and taken into custody, police said. Kovar was charged with unlawful fleeing a police officer in a motor vehicle in the third degree and reckless driving, both misdemeanors, as well as speeding, driving an insured motor vehicle, driving an unregistered motor vehicle, improper plates, non-transparent side windows, failure to stop at a stop sign, failure to signal, muffler and exhaust violations, all traffic infractions.

• Chris W. Stewart, 64, of Riverhead, was arrested Dec. 23 at 7:05 p.m. on Flanders Road in Riverside and charged with DWI, a misdemeanor. Police said Stewart was involved in a car accident and had glassy eyes, alcohol on his breath and was unsteady on his feet. He performed poorly on field sobriety tests and failed a prescreen breath test, police said.
